...DALLA KOREA....
Rieccomi ritornato in Korea. Rieccomi tra gli amici che avevo lasciato a Novembre. Mi sembra di essere ritornato a casa. Ora abito in un appartamento non distante dal precedente .E' molto accogliente e la camera attrezzata a studio ,da dove scrivo ,è grande e ben attrezzata.
Prima di partire dalla Korea, Il direttore del Centro Culturale di Gyeonju mi aveva chiesto di scrivere alcune note sulla città per essere pubblicate. Con mia sorpresa e piacere al ritorno a Ulsan mi hanno regalato il libro dove sono riportate le mie note tradotte in lingua coreana. Vi allego la bozza del testo in inglese che avevo scritto quella volta.
Ed è stato ancor piu’ bello domenica scorsa ritrovare gli amici che frequentano le lezioni di storia del confucianesimo in Korea e i nuovi iscritti al corso di storia antica tenuto dal prof. Ko responsabile del Centro Culturale di Gyeonju. Abbiamo fatto un tour nei dintorni della città visitando tombe di re e poi ,su per i pendii del monte Seondo ,alla scoperta di un Buddha scolpito nella roccia. Vi racconterò di questo tour nei prossimi giorni.
GEOUNGJU.. not only City of arts
It was September 2001 when I went for first time to Gyeongju, and soon I liked the city.
I was happy to visit the city which name I read on the “History of Korea” by M. Miotto two years before my coming in this Country. At same time I had only some knowledge about Silla and the 3 kingdoms. I discovered later that is not mentioned Kaya kingdom(the 4th?) that was important for the trading with overseas countries in the southern part of the peninsula. Since that time, about every week I went to visit Gyeongju with my Korean friends. It was possible for me to be introduced to the people, and know better, the culture, the life, the Country.
I was introduced also at that time to the Management staff of the Gyeongju National Museum and between us a friendship soon start. Two different culture, two different tradition, but only one interest : to know better and discover the history and culture of this Country. Gyeongju is not only important because linked to the Silla period, it was the capital, the center of the power, the center of the culture of this kingdom. But Gyeongju was and it is important just now for the culture of all Korea peninsula, separate after the 2nd war in North and South by 38° parallel that mark the border and divide the two countries. We must remember always that the culture is a richness belong to the world and not only to a single country. And the cultural treasures and relics existing inside and outside the museum should be respected and protected because belonging to the history of all Korea and of the world.
For a foreign as I was, in the wonderful and colored Autumn of 2001, the impact with Gyeongju was extraordinary. I love arts, music, folklore, old history, ancestral tradition and teaching of life, and I was then interested to expand my knowledge to the city which was offer to me. Following the teaching of friends, reading books, visiting often the Museum I learn more and more about the Korean history, maybe I know more that many Koreans know. Gyeongju is according the guides a tourist place, no industries, no air pollution, nice views. It is correct, but should be empathize more that it is city of culture and arts. There are the most important Buddhist temples . All know that Buddhist and Confucian philosophy are at the origin of the tradition of teaching and living in the korean family.
I visit manytime Bulguksa,Bunwangsa ,Golgulsa and other temples ,feeling each time special emotions. Bulguksa temples show the genius of the Silla Dynasty architectures in buildings. Often the invaders destroyed all, but all time were rebuilt and it is shown again the intelligence of this people.
Around the city the historical places with cultural relics with royal tumuli are testimony of the past of Korea and Silla kingdom . But Gyeongju is not only history, the culture of Korea and of this province is show to the visitors thorough festivals, arts expo, beautiful scenario of the city in the cherry blossom season,the colors of leaves in Autumns and the Anapji lotus garden.
The National Museum and the Gyeongju Cultural Center with their actions made with passion and professionalism by the Staff, promote the activities in teaching the old history and culture. In these years living in Korea(Ulsan) it was possible for me to enter in the spirit of Buddhist and Confucian philosophies thorough the school tours promoted by Museum. I visited since the beginning the most famous king tombs, the other tumuli in Nadong-ri, the Buddha statue of Gungwalsa and other important places. With Confucian School tours I visited Hogesowon,Boumjngsa,Dogye-Sewon, Punhawangsa, and other sites of old Confucian schools. Always Silla people was able to see over the borders of the own territory, always ready to trade with the western countries walking on the road, crossing China to west ,many centuries before the road was named “silk-road”.
And now after many years living in Korea, I feel to be part of this City and culture , because I knew more about history, folk, arts and daily traditional life of this wonderful Country.
